At its annual Dreamforce conference in San Francisco, enterprise software giant Salesforce unveiled Agentforce, a comprehensive platform that enables corporations to deploy autonomous artificial intelligence agents capable of executing complex business workflows without human intervention.

Addressing thousands of attendees at Moscone Center, Salesforce Chief Executive Officer Marc Benioff framed the launch as the dawn of the 'third wave of AI'—transitioning from predictive machine learning and generative copilots to fully autonomous digital coworkers.

The Third Wave of Enterprise Artificial Intelligence

At the core of Agentforce is the newly engineered Atlas Reasoning Engine, an orchestration framework that analyzes organizational context, plans multi-step actions, retrieves real-time customer data from Salesforce Data Cloud, and operates within predefined enterprise guardrails.

Unlike traditional conversational chatbots that merely answer queries, Agentforce agents can autonomously resolve complex customer service inquiries, qualify sales inbound leads, optimize marketing campaigns, and update enterprise resource records.

“Copilots were the first attempt, but they require too much manual effort. Agentforce represents the future: autonomous agents that understand your business data, take proactive action, and drive real productivity.”

Atlas Reasoning Engine and the Consumption-Based Pricing Shift

Benioff used his keynote to draw a sharp contrast with competitors, directly criticizing Microsoft's Copilot as an inaccurate and clunky assistant that resembles a modern-day 'Clippy' rather than an autonomous enterprise solution.

Salesforce also introduced a disruptive pricing model for Agentforce, charging $2 per agent conversation rather than conventional per-user monthly subscription fees, an approach that allows organizations to scale digital workforces dynamically based on business demand.
