The municipal council of Venice announced on September 19 that it will significantly expand its landmark day-tripper access fee for the 2025 tourist season.
Building upon the preliminary pilot program conducted in spring 2024, the Italian lagoon city will nearly double the number of operational enforcement days from 29 to 54, while instituting a tiered pricing model designed to deter last-minute mass tourism during high-density weekends.
Tiered Pricing and Calendar Expansion
Under the revised regulations, day visitors who register their entry at least four days in advance will continue to pay the standard 5 euro fee. However, day-trippers who book within the four-day window prior to arrival will be required to pay an increased rate of 10 euros.
The fee applies to peak-hour arrivals between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on selected Fridays, weekends, and Italian national holidays stretching from April through late July.

Exemptions and Enforcement Checks
As under the pilot program, overnight hotel guests paying municipal tourist lodging taxes, residents of the Veneto region, commuters, enrolled students, and children under age 14 remain completely exempt.
Enforcement personnel stationed at Santa Lucia railway station and Piazzale Roma will conduct spot checks, with fines ranging from 50 to 300 euros for unauthorized visitors.
