The decision marks a historic milestone in preventative medicine, establishing the nation's first seasonal influenza vaccine that individuals can administer in the comfort of their own homes without an in-person visit to a clinic or pharmacy.

Under the expanded label, adults aged 18 through 49 are cleared to self-administer the needle-free nasal spray. Parents and designated adult caregivers may also administer the vaccine to children and adolescents aged 2 through 17. The vaccine will continue to be offered through traditional medical offices and retail pharmacies for patients preferring clinical administration.

Eliminating the Clinic Visit for Annual Immunization

FluMist is a needle-free vaccine containing live attenuated influenza viruses that replicate mildly in the cooler temperatures of the upper respiratory tract without causing full-blown illness. First approved by the FDA in 2003 for healthcare provider use, the product has compiled more than two decades of robust real-world safety and immunological efficacy data.

To obtain FluMist for home use, consumers will complete an online screening assessment through a licensed digital pharmacy partner. A medical professional will evaluate eligibility, contraindications, and medical history before prescribing and shipping the temperature-controlled package directly to the patient's residence.
